Isabel Reina -Visual Artist
Isabel is a visual artist with a passion for creating inspiring contemporary artwork. Born in Seville , Spain, Isabel studied and worked for eleven years in London before moving to Cape Town and turning her hand to her passion, painting and drawing.
In her works she has recently incorporated embroidery with traditional art mediums adding a truly unique, fun and innovative artworks. She feels inspired by other artists, video-frames from movies, by music and by everything that surrounds her . "We absorb like sponges everything we see, if we really observe instead of just looking, we are able to absorb and understand that image and see how it makes us feel. By observing these images I like, it helps me with my creative process by giving me the tools to create and to come up with new images of my own, and to choose color palettes, depending on the mood and themes".
She is also fascinated by women who have made a difference in the world and who have made a change in society, be it by their contributions ad actions in politics, science, arts ad those being pioneers of their time. This can be seen for instance in some of her works done on Frida Khalo, Malala Yusafsai and Rosa Parks.
Isabel creates compositions wherein one finds charismatic atmospheres and enigmatic moods behind a background of tranquility. She has exhibited in various exhibitions and private functions and her work can be found in private collections worldwide.
"As an artist, I am constantly driven to explore and communicate ideas. It is due to these explorations that I have found a new love for embroidery and collage. I find the relationship between my drawings, paintings, collage and the threads to achieve an inspiring visual effect that I am very happy with. In a way embroidery takes me back to my childhood where I was taught very basic techniques and brings me back sweet memories of working in groups and enjoying the process. Collage is also part of childhood memories when we were allowed to experiment with paper from magazines and newspapers. My style is in constant evolution as I love to explore the possibilities of different techniques and above all to improve in my way of working'.
